Opera Mobile Browsers

As cell phones morph into small handheld computers, the mobile web browser has become an area of immense importance.  One company that has embraced this challenge is Opera.  They have been pioneers in creating mobile browsers that have significantly improved the browsing experience on cell phones.  For example, the Opera Mini browser has been a big success.  Any serious mobile enthusiast has most likely downloaded the application (for free) on to their mobile phone.  While Blackberry has made efforts to improve their browser, it still remains second fiddle to the Opera Mini.  It is important to note, however, that Windows Mobile will be launching a new mobile browser that brings significant andvances, such as Flash.  This is no small achievement considering both the Android and iPhone browser are still sans Flash support.

At CTIA 2009 in Las Vegas, Opera was eager to show off its latest mobile browser efforts by highlighting their “Turbo” technology, which employs compression via Opera servers to speed page downloads on slow mobile networks.  The Turbo technology can be used in conjunction with mobile browsers or regular browers where there is limitted access to bandwidth.  It is pretty impressive.  Check out the demonstration at CTIA!
