Study Names Verizon Wireless as Top Call Quality Carrier

Does you always experience static or voice distortions when you make a call? perhaps you've experience many dropped calls or the lack immediate text message notifications? Well, if you have experienced these before then perhaps this story will be useful to you.

According to Phonescoop, J.D. Power and Associates has released the findings of their latest study concerning the quality of cell phone calls. The research company relied heavily on customer experiences to discover the best call quality offered by US carriers.

J.D. Power and Associates names this analysis as the "Wireless Call Quality Performance Study." This is conducted about every 12 months. The performance of wireless carriers vary in every year so it has to be conducted yearly to provide accurate rankings.

Here are the factors being considered in the
Wireless Call Quality Performance Study:

  • dropped calls
  • static/interference
  • failed connection on the first try
  • voice distortion
  • echoes
  • no immediate voice mail notification
  • and no immediate text message notification

The study was conducted on several geographic areas in the US. This means that some carriers may not do very well in some areas that they do not have full coverage. This will also inform mobile phone customers on the carriers that have the best call quality in their area.

Here are the US geographic regions and the networks that have been ranked first in call quality.

West Region: Verizon Wireless was ranked first in this area.

North Central Region: Alltel and US Cellular claims the top spot in this region.

Northeast Region: Customers bestow the top spot to Verizon Wireless in this area.

Southwest Region: Sprint Nextel and Verizon Wireless share the top rank in this region

Mid-Atlantic Region: Once again, Verizon Wireless is the top dog in this area

Southeast Region: Alltel grabs the tops spot in this region.


There you have it. those are the rankings for the carriers with the best call quality. Interestingly, AT&T and T-Mobile were not able to grab the top spot in any of the regions. However, these figures may change in the year as networks are constantly trying to improve their service.
