Music Phones to Increase in Coming Years

Do you like music? If you do, then here's some good news for you. In the coming years, more cellphones will have to capability to music.

An article from news.com says that a research market report from MultiMedia Intelligence predicts that half of mobile phones will be able to play music in 2011. The report defines a music phone as a handset that is equipped with a memory card slot and capable of playing music files.

It was also reveled on the that consumers prefer music phones than ordinary portable music players. Last year, 500 million music phones were shipped last. That's 300 million more compared to the number of portable music players that were shipped.

The marketability of music is emphasized in the article. We love listening to music so a device that is capable of playing music files has a distinct advantage against non-music playing handsets.

Music-playing capability has great potential in terms of encouraging consumers to purchase mobile phones. Hence, mobile phone manufacturers and carriers are expected to include music in their marketing plans and strategies.

Well, I think that this is great news. Music phones are wonderful devices but they are more expensive than ordinary handsets. This report may mean that the capability to play music may become a common feature or affordable music phones may be soon be available.

How to Deal with a Soaked Mobile Phone

One of my biggest fears is dropping my mobile phone in the pool. For this reason, I never take my handset near a pool or any place wet. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that water can do a lot of damage to a mobile phone.

I am so obsessed with keeping my cell phone protected from water that I did some research on what to do in case my phone gets soaked. Accidents cal always happen and it's always best to know the proper procedures when faced with an emergency.

Anyway, I found out to my dismay that most cell phone guarantees do not include water damage. this means that you'll get nothing from your carrier if you destroy your mobile phone by dropping it in the lake during a fishing trip. I made a note to myself that I will ask for a water damage guarantee when I purchase a new handset.

I also found out that if a mobile phone gets soak in sticky liquids such as soda, then it will be mostly useless. However, plain water is not as damaging as I expected. Although the damage might also depend on how long it stays underwater. A phone that has been soaked in plain water may still work if you let it dry out thoroughly. However, that may also depend on luck.

If you find that your device is not working after being soaked, then you don't have to go desperate. there is still a chance that a cell phone repair business can bring it back in working order. You may have to shell out a few bucks for the repairs but this is a small price compared to purchasing a new handset and completely losing your phone.

After i did my research, I decided that the best option is caution. Repair businesses can resurrect a soaked phone but nothing beats taking good care of your phone. If you protect your device from being soaked in water, then there will be no need to hire repair services.

Google Has Even Bigger Plans for Mobile Phones

Google Inc. made a big splash last week with its new software for cellphones. But that's far from the limit of the Internet giant's wireless ambitions -- which could include running its own mobile network.

The company is gearing up to make a serious run at buying wireless spectrum, a chunk of the airwaves that can be used to provide mobile phone and Internet services, in a Federal Communications Commission auction in January. Google is prepared to bid on its own without any partners, say people familiar with the matter. It is working out a plan to finance its bid, which could run $4.6 billion or higher, that would rely on its own cash and possibly some borrowed money.

Google, meanwhile, already is running a test version of an advanced wireless network at its Mountain View, Calif., headquarters, gaining operating experience that could come in handy if it wins the spectrum and decides to run a full-scale national mobile carrier, according to people familiar with the matter.

ASUS P527 Phone

GPS navigation is not one of those things most users consider to be crucial in a PDA-phone, at least not in the same way as features like W-Fi and Bluetooth are. But even though most consider it to be a bonus rather than a requirement, it is surprisingly found in quite a few entry-level devices even when high-end ones give it a miss.

Examples will be devices from Mitac and E-Ten, companies which tend to put a GPS chip into every handset they sell, even the 2.5G ones. Another of these manufacturers is Asus, and a good example is its upcoming P527 handheld.

Like the Asus P525 before it, the P527 comes with a numeric keypad. This makes it easier to punch in phone numbers for dialing and even for keying in text compared to writing on the screen. It also eases in users switching over from regular mobile phones as most of those have numeric keypads as well.

As mentioned earlier, the P527 will come with GPS for navigation. This utilizes the SiRFstar III chip, that we've generally had good experiences with in other devices like the Dopod U1000 and Mitac Mio A501.

Like many other Windows Mobile PDA-phones, the P527 comes with quite a few wireless connectivity features. Granted, it's doesn't have HSDPA or 3G, but all others like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are available. A bonus is the inclusion of an FM tuner.

Other notable features of the P527 are a 2-megapixel autofocus camera, a microSD slot with support for SDHC cards, and a 2.6-inch QVGA display. It is also reasonably compact with a thickness of 15.4mm and weight of 125g.

The Asus P527 will be available in Hong Kong and Taiwan at the end of November. Thereafter, it will be sold in Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, India and Turkey.
