The New Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Touchscreen Phone

Here's another touchscreen handset for those who dislike normal keypads. Nokia has just launch its first ever touchscreen device. Nokia fans meet the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Let look at he details on this device.

Nokia's press release indicated that the Nokia 5800 touchscreen will first hit European markets in the fourth quarter of 2008. The first Nokia touchscreen mobile phone will arrive in the US and other markets during the first quarter of 2009. Unfortunately, the pricing information for this stylish device was not yet released.

The mobile phone maker hopes to reach out to the youth market by releasing a touch screen-based device. I think this is a great strategy considering that younger users are attractive to cool looking touchscreen handsets. The Nokia 5800 also belongs to the XpressMusic line so its music and media applications will appeal to younger users.

Let's take a look at the hardware. The toucsreen display of the Nokia 5800 measures 3.2 inches across. It will have 640 x 360 pixels for QVGA resolution which makes a a vibrant display for videos and other applications. Interestingly, Nokia's touchscreen device does not use not touch-capacitance but touch-resistance. We'll see now it will perform when the reviews come out.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flashes. It can also shoot video at 30 frames per second. This means that it will have a better camera than the iPhone and the Samsung Instinct. I think it matches up well with the LG Dare's camera.

The device will run S60 5th Edition a platform that supports touch input. This platform will offer a new contacts bar, a new media key and simplified menu systems. The media key will provide access to music and entertainment applications.

here are the key features of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Touchscreen Phone:

  • stereo Bluetooth
  • A-GPS
  • Wi-Fi.
  • quad-band GSM/EDGE
  • dual-band 850/1900 MHz HSDPA
  • stereo speakers
