The New Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Touchscreen Phone

Here's another touchscreen handset for those who dislike normal keypads. Nokia has just launch its first ever touchscreen device. Nokia fans meet the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Let look at he details on this device.

Nokia's press release indicated that the Nokia 5800 touchscreen will first hit European markets in the fourth quarter of 2008. The first Nokia touchscreen mobile phone will arrive in the US and other markets during the first quarter of 2009. Unfortunately, the pricing information for this stylish device was not yet released.

The mobile phone maker hopes to reach out to the youth market by releasing a touch screen-based device. I think this is a great strategy considering that younger users are attractive to cool looking touchscreen handsets. Let's take a look at the hardware. The toucsreen display of the Nokia 5800 measures 3.2 inches across. It will have 640 x 360 pixels for QVGA resolution which makes a a vibrant display for videos and other applications. Interestingly, Nokia's touchscreen device does not use not touch-capacitance but touch-resistance. We'll see now it will perform when the reviews come out.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be equipped with a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and dual LED flashes. It can also shoot video at 30 frames per second. This means that it will have a better camera than the iPhone and the Samsung Instinct. I think it matches up well with the LG Dare's camera.

The device will run S60 5th Edition a platform that supports touch input. This platform will offer a new contacts bar, a new media key and simplified menu systems. The media key will provide access to music and entertainment applications.

It also offers Voice dialing, memory expansion card slot and removable battery which are absent on the iPhone.

The Android OS was created by Google and many phone companies and carriers have already committed to adopting the platform. Naturally, the T-Mobile G1 is tied up with Google services. the first android phone will offer Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps Street View, and other Google services.

Will this device topple the iPhone? Well, it may appeal to a different market. Some fashion conscious users may find it too bulky. 3G IPhone Bargain Bonanza

I picked up this exciting 3G iPhone rumor while surfing the web. According to this Fortune.cnn.com article, a source revealed that AT&T is making some special plans to enhance the release of Apple's 3G iPhone.

The exclusive U.S. iPhone distributor is rumored to be planning to cut the price of the highly popular handset by as much as $200 when the 3G version is launched this summer. If it's true that AT&T will subsidize $200 of the cost of a new iPhone, then the price will be brought down to $199. This will be available for customers who sign two-year contracts according to the source of this rumor.

Naturally, representatives from both AT&T and Apple declined to comment when confronted with these rumors. If this plan is true, then they are probably keeping it a secret to maximize its impact on the market and to keep other carriers from making a quick response.

If the 3G iPhone will be sold for 200 hundred bucks then a wider consumer market will be able to afford it. AT&T will have an attractive offer that can lure lucrative customers away from rival mobile phone service providers. It would be logical the new iPhone will likely be locked or programmed to prevent buyers from taking the discounted handset to another network.

Plenty of rumors have surfaced about the upcoming 3G iPhone. The highly popular mobile device may be to be released on the one-year anniversary of the original version.

Fortune's source claims that Apple will cease to release the original version once the 3G device is in the market. This move may be seen as an attempt to clear out inventory and stir up demand for the new 3G version.

The source of the rumor also offered other details on the upcoming 3G iPhone. One of these details is the new version will be slimmer by 2.5 mm than the older model. The new iPhone may also offer a GPS chip for navigation and other location-based services.

Well, this is certainly an interesting rumor. If it's true then a lot of people will definitely purchase the 3G iPhone. I know I would. However, these are just rumors and there are tons of rumors on Apple's hit handset these days. Tune in for more updates or confirmations on these rumors.

More Job Cuts for Motorola

If you have been tuning in to news in the mobile phone industry, then you are probably aware that Motorola has been struggling. The major mobile phone manufacturer has been suffering from slumping handset sales and have decided to split into two entities. The company has now decided to cut some jobs to cope with declining revenue by trimming down on its annual costs.

In 2007, the manufacturer's revenue was pegged at$36.7 billion, which indicated a loss of about 15%. The sharp drop-off in sales in wireless phones is probably responsible in this significant drop in profit. The mobile phone business it the company's largest division. When sales of cellphones plummeted by an alarming 33%, the job cuts became inevitable.

According to reports, Motorola is planning to layoff more than two and a half thousand employees . The company has publicly announced some of the job cuts in Asia, Europe and the US. However, it did not reveal the exact figures of the job cut in Chicago, where the company hires about fifteen thousand workers.

Motorola is not a stranger to job cuts. The company has used it before in an effort to improve its businesses. In 2007, more than seven and a half jobs were cut. The struggling company will have about 63,500 workers all over the globe when the lay off will be implemented. This is a significant decrease when compared to the nearly one hundred fifty thousand strong workforce the company employed in the year 2000.

Experts say that the company might be able to recover from its current slump by increasing the speed of its development process. This way, the company will be able to boost mobile phone profits by being able to launch unique and attractive handsets in a shorter period of time. Motorola's decision to separate its handset division from other business might also be able to lure innovative executives. New leadership might be the key to improving sales and helping the company to regain its former status as a world leader in mobile phone devices and technology.
